Face Lift @Hickory Regional Airport
Hickory Metro is still digging out of the tornado that struck the area last October. Loggers can be seen stripping the red earth of downed trees to protect against forest fires off Grace Chapel Rd in Caldwell & on Hubbard Rd in Alexander county. Cranes hauling 100 foot tree trunks over homes is a regular occurence of late and an expensive one at that.
Our Hickory Regional Airport is scheduled for improvements to the north ramp from damage caused last fall as the tornado moved from Icard, NC off I 40 through the airport destroying planes, cars and two hangers. Then it took a right turn towards Lake Hickory's main channel just west of the Hwy 321 bridge and spiraled across both sides of the lake before heading north between Plantation Pointe and Olivers Landing and then towards Taylorsville and Wilkesboro. The airport is slated to receive $915,000 for the much needed repairs from NC Dept of Transportation. For more info, click here.
